John Hanel

John "Hans" Hanel, age 84, of Parma Ohio, and formerly of Erie, passed away Wednesday January 23, 2013 at Grace Hospital in Lakewood Ohio.

John was born May 24, 1928 in Czechoslovakia, son of the late Joseph and Michaelina Vecerek Hanel.

John was a pipe fitter and worked for Erie Press in Erie and at Alcoa in Cleveland, OH. John was a loving father and husband who loved dancing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Michael Hanel, a brother Antoun Hanel and a sister Hilda Roemer.

He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Catherine Eisert Hanel, three sons; Joseph Hanel of Erie, Robert Hanel of Parma, OH and John Hanel of Cleveland, three daughters; Cathy Becker and her husband Bob, Carol Yahn and her husband Jeffery both of Fairview and Heidi Carter and her husband Kevin of Westerville, OH, 15 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street Erie (at Powell Ave.) on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m and are invited to attend funeral services there on Monday at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
