John J. Groszkiewicz, Jr., age 55, a lifelong resident of Erie passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 30, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born in Erie on September 3, 1961, the son of Janet (Sawicki) Groszkiewicz and the late John Groszkiewicz.
John graduated from Cathedral Prep in 1979 and from Mercyhurst University in 2010. He was a former employee of the West 26th St. Kmart and was a long time employee of the former Snap Tite, now Parker Hannifan in the Quick Connect Coupling division in Union City. John was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 983 and was the 2003 winner of the HGTV dream home. John enjoyed spending time with his family and dogs, collecting model trains, and solving puzzles.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by an uncle, Louis Sawicki; his father-in-law, John Brice; and sisters-in-law, Sue Groszkiewicz and Sharon Chrispen.
Along with his mother Janet, he is survived by his wife, Karen (Brice) Groszkiewicz; four children, Amy, Laura, Andrew, and Justin Groszkiewicz. His siblings, Lori Polnow; Michael Groszkiewicz, Anne Weidman, and Joseph Groszkiewicz along with many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Friday from 1-4 & 6-8 PM and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday at 9:30 AM in St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 2801 W.6th St. Burial will be private, In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
