John Ginader

July 20, 1918 — May 31, 2016

John was born November 13, 1941 in Erie PA son of the late Benjamin and Eleanor Gillespie Ginader. He graduated from Blair Academy in 1960 and from Grove City College in 1964 with a degree in engineering. Following graduation, he went to work at American Hollow Boring, a company founded by his grandfather. He became the company President in 1980 and Chairman of the Board in 2008, retiring in 2009. He loved his work and was dedicated to the success of American Hollow Boring.

John loved to “fix things” and was known to many as Captain Fixit. He enjoyed getting involved in projects with others and was instrumental in the lighting of the Perry Monument in 1982.

He was a member of the Erie Yacht Club for over 39 years and also a member of the Port Dover Yacht Club. He loved boating and a good game of gin in the EYC bar with friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother Jean Ginader.

John is survived by his wife Alice “Midge” Ginader, sister Eleanor Berry, daughter Aimee Gevirtz and her husband Scott and son Geoffrey Ginader and his wife Darcy. He is also survived by step-children Traci Lewis and her husband Todd, Danielle Ostrowski and Todd Baker; grandchildren Nicolette and Ryan Gevirtz, Sophia and Jackson Ginader, Gabriel and Brady Baker, Jake Ostrowski and Emily and Kevin Lewis, and great granddaughter Addison Garlick.

The family would like to thank his caregivers Caren and Patty for their care and compassion during his illness.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm and are invited to the service there on Monday at 11:00 am.

Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Regional Home Health and Hospice 2564 Village Common Drive Erie, PA 16506.
