John G. Giebfried, age 79, of Erie, passed away on March 7, 2022 at his residence.
He was born in Kew Gardens, NY on November 24, 1942 a son of the late John W. Giebfried and Ruth Steffans Giebfried.
John graduated from Martin Van Buren High School in New York and City College of New York with a degree in Engineering and received his MBA from the University of Buffalo. Served in the United States Navy as an officer LTJG with the Seabees during the Vietnam War.
He was Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Penn Union in Edinboro for many years.
He enjoyed traveling, cruises, hunting and fishing and being outdoors. John was a volunteer member of the crew on the Flagship Niagara and a member of the Kairos Prison Ministry and Koinonia of Erie County. He attended Erie First Assembly.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Nancy Giebfried; two daughters Amy B. Angel (Michael) of Justin, Texas and Dawn M. Szczesny (Ray) of Beaver, PA; two brothers James Giebfried (Motria) of Earlysville, Virginia; Joseph Giebfried (Rosemary) of Bangor, Maine; six grandchildren Ashley White, Jacob Yochim, Kaden Yochim, Natalie Yochim, Hannah Szczesny, Emily Szczesny and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at Erie First Assembly of God on Thursday at 1pm. 8150 Oliver Road South, Erie. Burial will be in the National Cemetery of The Alleghenies.
