John Francis Gallagher

John Francis Gallagher, age 97, of Erie passed away Friday, December 8, 2023 at his daughter’s home in Beaumont, TX. He was born November 21, 1926 in Erie the son of the late Joseph and Mary (English) Gallagher.

A lifelong resident of Erie, John served with the US Navy during WWII and later retired from Strohman Bakery after 3 decades. He was a former member of VFW Post 470, the Zukor Club, and Elks Lodge 67. He was an avid walker at the Peninsula and enjoyed crosswords and Fox News. John was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (Lawrence) Gallagher; a son, Tom Gallagher; two brothers, Joseph and James Gallagher, and a sister, Mary Fleming.

John is survived by a son, Tim Gallagher and his wife Tammie of Erie and a daughter, Ann Marie Leiferman and her husband Jon of Beaumont, TX. He is the proud grandfather of Makenna Vincent and Kasey Gallagher. The family would like to extend special thanks to Kelsey and Jody from Gentiva Hospice for their compassion, knowledge and never ending support. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to dad’s caregivers Jasmine and Amber who always took such loving care of him. Jasmine, he’s in heaven still pondering how you can be so happy so early in the mornings; lastly thanks to Fr. Senovio Sarabia for bringing weekly communion and praying with us as a family. Written words will never be able to express our gratitude and the peace you brought to our family.

Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 West 26th St. on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 11:00 am until Prayer Services at 1:00 pm followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:30 pm in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery.
