John Lawrence “Case” Fatica, age 99 of Erie passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Erie on November 8, 1917.
John was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, class of 1935. He also served with the United States Army Combat Engineers during WWII.
John’s love of sports led him to play baseball for the City of Erie, the Glenwood League and with the Cincinnati Reds Farm system. John was the very first coach of Boy’s Baseball in Erie and was supervisor of all the Erie Little League coaches for 17 years. He was honored as Baseball Person of the Year in 2007. John had worked as an agent and staff manager for John Hancock Insurance for 34 years.
Besides his parents, he was precede in death by his siblings; Jack, Edward, Lawrence, and Rosella Fatica, Anna Phillips, and Josephine Lombardo.
He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Eva (Gamble) Fatica and his three sons; Dr. Lawrence Fatica and his wife Nancy of Erie; John Fatica of Milwaukee, WI, and Matthew Fatica and his wife Amy of Erie. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Friday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Saturday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children,1645 W.8th St., Erie, PA 16505; the St. Patrick Food Pantry, 130 E. 4th St., Erie, PA 16507, or to the Glenwood Baseball League.
