John “Jack” W. Eyerly, 78, of Erie passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 8, 2018 at the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie, PA.
Born in Morrisdale, PA, on February 17, 1940, a son of the late Robert L. and Sara J. (McClement) Eyerly, he graduated in 1958 from Morris Township High School in Clearfield County, PA. He then went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1958-1962. He worked as an Instructor at the Federal Aviation Administration Academy for 10 years in Oklahoma City, and retired after working for 35 years as an Air Traffic Controller at the Erie International Airport.
Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and listened to gospel music and was a member of Erie Christian Fellowship Church.
Jack is survived by his wife of 52 years Helen E. (Maurer) Eyerly, of Erie; two children, daughter Michele Lechtner of Hickory, NC; and son Kevin Eyerly of Erie, PA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three brothers: Raymond Eyerly of Clearfield, PA, Robert Eyerly, Jr. of Erie, PA, Tim Eyerly of Morrisdale, PA; and one sister Marilyn Hummel of Clearfield, PA.
Friends may call at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Road, Erie, PA 16510, on Friday May 11th from 2 pm until the time of service at 4 pm with Reverend James Dumont of Erie Christian Fellowship Church officiating. Full military honors will immediately follow. Burial will be private.
