John “Jack” M. Brown, age 91, of Erie died on Tuesday February 23, 2016 at UPMC Hamot.
He was born on November 25, 1924 Sproul, PA to the late John David and Marjorie Walters Brown.
John was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy.
He graduated from Triadelphia High School in West VA in 1942 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University.
John began his career as a Cadet Engineer at the Pennsylvania Gas Company in 1949 and retired from National Fuel in 1989 where he served as Vice Chairman of the Board and President of multiple subsidiaries of the Company.
John also served on the board of the Boy Scouts of Western NY, New York Governors Council for Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Board of Deacons at Bethany Lutheran Church, Board of Directors of Orchard Park Country Club, Board of Directors of First National Bank, and served as Chairman of the American Gas Association.
He was active in several churches including Bethany Lutheran of Erie, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Warren, PA, Nativity Lutheran in East Aurora, NY and most recently Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Erie.
John enjoyed golfing, reading, pets and above all being with his family.
He was a man of conviction, great faith, and a generous, kind man who loved people and who people loved.
He was a man who fought the good fight, kept the faith, and finished the race well (2 Timothy 4-7).
John was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Earnest Clark Brown (June 21, 2011); brothers, William and Shannon Brown; granddaughter, Christina Elizabeth Anderson; great-granddaughter, Faith Anderson.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Clark Anderson (Robert) and Patricia Brown both of Erie; sister, Mary Ellen Brown Harmon (Roy) of Zelienople, PA; grandchildren, Michael R. Anderson (Cheryl) of Erie, Julie Yartz (Kurt) of Richmond, VA and John C. Anderson (Brittany) of Richmond, VA; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Justin, and Cara Anderson of Erie, RJ, Lindsay, Cody, Logan, and Savannah Anderson of Richmond VA, Katherine and Jack Yartz of Richmond, VA; great-great grandson, Caleb Williams-Anderson of Richmond, VA.
Friends may call the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St., Erie, PA on Sunday 2-6 and are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday at 11:00 am at the Walnut Creek Church, 6015 West Ridge Rd., Erie, PA 16506.
