John Biggie disembarked from this world on March 4, 2023, he was 68 years old.
John’s brother, Peter, preceded him in death decades ago, and, as a result, John vowed to live his life to the fullest; he accomplished that goal in remarkable style.
Born in Erie, John traveled often, living in California, Hawaii, and Florida. In Miami, alongside his friend Abby Hoffman, he marched and protested Nixon and the Vietnam War in the early 70s.
John enjoyed a good single malt and smoking cigarettes. His aplomb with a Newport 100 was legendary. He could hold a long ash on a cigarette, held gingerly between his lips, for what seemed like hours. He loved dancing, reviewing local and national music talent, especially live music.
John returned to college in his late 20s and earned a degree in communications.
In Erie, John hosted a radio program on Gannon’s WERG, where he interviewed local musicians, artists, and politicians. He played an eclectic selection of rock ‘n roll music for his many devoted fans.
John, part of the original group of freaks that started High Times Magazine, wrote, and published a free periodical called Currently Erie, where he reviewed local and national music talent.
He was active in local politics and theatre. John became the Lighting Director at The Roadhouse Theatre, a post he held for 16 years. He appeared in several Roadhouse productions.
In recent years he helped, as much as possible, at PACA.
John cared deeply about the planet, despite the fact that he always owned and drove Cadillacs. He was a veracious reader of books, especially history.
Now John is with his family and friends, probably smoking a cigarette, hangin’ with kool kats and babes, and offering everyone a ride in his Cadillac with wings.
Take care, John, we remember you in death as lovingly as you remembered us in life.
