John Neil Bennett, 74, of Erie (formerly of Sheridan Avenue), died on Monday, November 5, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on November 8, 1943, in Erie, son of the late Ira L. and Mary Platner Bennett. A graduate of Tech Memorial High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Bennett was a machinist for AMSCO for 37 years, retiring in 2005, was a faithful Cleveland Browns fan, and an avid golfer and bowler. He bowled in the 8-Ball League, recorded three 300 games, and also ran the Brothers Bowling Tournament in Erie. He loved socializing and could always be found at the Oakwood Cafe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Neil, Clifton and Larry Bennett and two sisters, Clara Kaus and Joyce Bennett.
Survivors include a daughter, Denise Golab (Brian), with whom he resided; a son, Jeffrey Bennett of Fort Meyers, FL; two brothers, Ira Bennett (Beverly Kossbiel) of Harborcreek, PA and Steven Bennett of Erie; two granddaughters, Breanna Golab of Erie and Ryelle Bennett of Fort Myers, FL; a grandson, Cameron Bennett of Fort Myers, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street. A service will be held there Saturday at 10 a.m. with Deacon Kevin J. Kunik officiating.
Interment Services will be conducted Monday, October 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Girard Cemetery, Church Street, Girard, PA with full military honors conducted by VFW Billy Simpson Post 470.
