John Barner

January 12, 1944 — July 26, 2015

John W. “Jack” Barner, age 71, of Lake City, passed away, Sunday, July 26, 2015 at St. Vincent Health Center.

He was born in Indiana, PA on January 12, 1944, a son of the late JohnWillard and Mabel Elizabeth Hannah Barner.

John attended Fairview High School before enlisting in the U.S Army in 1961 at the age of 17 where he served during the Korean War. Jack earned a commendation for being a sharpshooter. He retired as a CNC machinist from Snap-Tite, Inc. in 2004. When he was younger, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son and his friends. During his retirement he could be seen riding his Harley Davidson anytime he got the chance. Jack was a member of the Fairview American Legion Post #742 and the Girard American Legion Post #494.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Nancy Kay Barner and Helen Ilene Perry.

He is survived by his children that loved him very much, Joanna K. Peters and her husband Mark of Girard, and a son, Shawn J. Barner of Erie, a granddaughter that he adored, Jessica L. Barner of Indianapolis, IN. He is also survived by a sister, June Brown and her husband George, of NC; one nephew, John Brown and his wife Robin of NC. He is further survived by his companion Cathy Stewart of Lake City; his former wife, Donna Barner as well as many friends.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, in Girard on Thursday from 4pm until the time of the prayer service with full military honors at 7pm.
