Johanne Marie Bray

Johanne Marie Bray, age 92, of Erie, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Niagara Village. She was born in Erie, March 12, 1931, to the late George and Helen Freeland. Johanne graduated from Harborcreek High School class of 1949 and later worked for General Telephone as a customer service representative.

She is survived by her sister, Dianna Defelice; four children: Suzanne Lanich, Jimmy Hulsinger, Michael G. Hulsinger and John “Bobby” Kirsch; son-in-law Bill McGill; 19 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Johanne is preceded in death by her husband Ralph D. Bray; siblings: Chuck Freeland, George Freeland, Richard Freeland, Medabelle Lawrence, Irene Fleagle, Cleo Ruggiero, Ina Freeland; four children: John Hulsinger, Norman Hulsinger, Jolene Byler, and Debby McGill; two grandchildren: Sammy McGill, and Jenna Byler; and great granddaughter, Alexa McGill.

Grandma was known by her family for her generosity anytime they were in need. She had a great sense of humor in both good times and bad, and enjoyed laughing at herself as much as anything which endeared her to anyone fortunate enough to cross paths with her. She was also well-known for her nomadic spirit. Moving to a new home became almost her favorite pastime, allowing some of her family and friends to have several opportunities to repay her generosity by helping her move.

Johanne was baptized on October 8, 1955, as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and served as an active member of the congregation up until her death. Sharing her faith in God’s Kingdom with others was something she did on every occasion possible.

Friends are invited to a memorial service 6:00PM Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Pineview Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on 1659 East Grandview Blvd. Private inurnment will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
