Johanna McGavern, age 95 of Erie died Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Village at Luther Square. She was born in Erie on July 6, 1919 a daughter of the late Martin and Marie Jenson.
A graduate of Academy High School Johanna had worked at Talon Manufacturing in Erie. She was a lifelong member of the Sommerlyst Club; the Danish Sisterhood; the Red Hat Society and was President of the Erie Women’s Bowling Association, she held office for 22 years in the EWBA. She was inducted into the WIBC Hall of Fame and also the PSWBA Hall of Fame. She was secretary of the Starlighters League and rolled 11 - 600 series with a high game of 276.
In addition to her parents Johanna was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Ralph McGavern in 2009; five brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Barb Bean and her husband Joe; her son, Terry McGavern and his wife Anna, of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, Mick, Jim and Jen Bean and Natalie Tracy; three great grandchildren, Jesse and Joey Bean and Eris Tracy. Aunt Hanna is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend Marcia.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home 602 West 10th Street on Thursday from 4 until the time of services at 8pm with the Reverend Roy Washill officiating.
Private burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
