Joanne Wiser

Joanne Daub Wiser, age 68, of Girard, passed away Saturday February 25, 2017 at UPMC Hamot following injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on February 13th.

She was born in Washington DC on November 4, 1948 a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Wholihan Daub.

Joanne graduated from Fairview High School in 1966. After working as a teacher’s aide for the Intermediate Unit, she returned to college, graduating with honors on a Presidential Scholarship to Villa Maria College. She taught 4th grade at Elk Valley Elementary School until her retirement in 2011.

Joanne volunteered at the Caring Place, Sisters of Mercy, Erie Soup Kitchen and had been a Eucharistic Minister at Pleasant Ridge Manor. She was a member of Holy Cross Church. She enjoyed reading and taking care of her flowers.

Joanne’s biggest passion was her grandchildren. She loved her yearly tradition of “Nana Camp”.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman “Bub” Hetz; a daughter in law, Kristin Hetz; a nephew, Daniel Vasalinda and a niece, Darlene Vasalinda.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 21 years, George Wiser; four sons, Scott Hetz and his wife Anne of Washington DC, Christopher Hetz and his wife Pam of Pittsburgh, Patrick Hetz and his wife Suzanne of Doylestown and Mark Hetz and his wife Jennifer of Pittsburgh; a sister, Judy Vasalinda. She is further survived by 10 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Grace, Charlie, Jake, Will, Max, Joey, Jack, Adam and Lia.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East on Tuesday from 6-8 pm and Wednesday 3-7 pm and are invited to attend a mass on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 7100 W Ridge Rd, Fairview with Celebrant Rev. Thomas Tyler.

Burial will be private.
