Joanne Robinson Mangold, a resident of Girard, passed away on July 30, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie, after a lengthy illness. She was 86.
Joanne was born on January 13, 1927 in Greenville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Semler Robinson, and was raised on the family’s dairy farm. When her father passed, she and her mother and sister moved to the Semler family residence in Girard, where she lived for more than 70 years.
She graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in Girard, in 1944.
Over the years, she worked in a number of secretarial positions, including the Girard Presbyterian Church for many years, and she was office manager for the late Harry L. Joselin during his tenure as District Magistrate.
On May 28, 1951, Joanne married Paul Mangold, Jr. Their marriage was still filled with love and devotion after more than 62 years. She was also a loving and nurturing mother and grandmother, and she always enjoyed preparing meals and entertaining family and friends at her home. Besides cooking, she enjoyed reading and traveling.
Joanne was a very active member of the Girard Presbyterian Church. In addition to her duties as church secretary, she sang in the choir, led an adult education class, and was clerk of the session.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
She is survived by her husband Paul Mangold, Jr.; her daughter, Mari Jo Martinelli and her husband Jim of Conneaut, Ohio; her son Jeff Mangold and his wife Laurie and their daughter Alyssa of Ashburn, Virginia; her sister Nancy Tuschak of Woodland, California; her nephew Joe Tuschak of West Sacramento, California; her niece Jean Tuschak, also of Woodland; many Semler family cousins, and her extended church family.
A memorial service will be held at the Girard Presbyterian Church, 260 Main Street East in Girard on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Nicola Vitiello officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on that day from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial in Girard Cemetery will be private.
Memorials may be made to Girard First United Presbyterian Church, or the charity of one’s choice.
