Joanne Becker

Joanne M. “Joie” DeHart Becker, age 80, of Millcreek, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at her home with her husband of 60 years by her side.  She was born in Erie on August 22, 1938, to the late Richard and Birdena Babbitt DeHart.

Joanne graduated from East High School and was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church. She met her loving husband, Louis F. Becker, at the age of 12 during confirmation class. In November 1957, they got married in Henderson, NC. Jo’s life was devoted to her husband, children, and grandchildren. While she worked odd jobs and as a certified nursing assistant, her greatest accomplishment was being a stay at home Mom. Each day she lovingly took care of her home and family. She was an excellent cook, always making family “favorites” for them to enjoy. Jo was very proud that she passed on her traditions of secret sauce and soup to her son, daughter and granddaughters, saying, “you’ve made it perfect, you all are perfect, my job is done”. She was a special lady and lived each day to its fullest for her family. 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert DeHart.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Louis, and their children, Timothy Becker (Linda), Kathleen Fromknecht (Thomas), Brian Becker (Leslie), and Darrell Becker (Linda), all of Erie. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, Darrell Jr., Cortney, Gregory, Kaitlyn, Kristine, Emily, Austin, Cameron, Chelsea, Brianna, Emma; her sister, Linda Dakis, her sisters-in-law, Linda Sawdey and Jacqueline DeHart, her Godchild, Christine Caserta, as well as many niece and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26^th St. (at Powell Ave.), from 2-4 and 6-8PM, are invited to the service there Wednesday at 10AM, with Reverend Derek Sanford officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made on behalf of the family to West Ridge Fire Department, 3142 West 26^th St. Erie.
