On March 31st, in Mobile, Alabama, Joan Marilyn (Rausch) Paulson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away at the age of 85.
Joan, born in Keepville, Pennsylvania, attended the Hamot School of Nursing after graduating from Albion High School. She was a proud and committed nurse who dedicated more than 50 years of her life helping people, working at Hamot Medical Center and the University of South Alabama Hospitals.
Joan lived in Fairview, Pennsylvania, for over 20 years and was an active member of the community, volunteering for Fairview Athletic Boosters, Fairview Garden Club, and numerous other organizations Later, she relocated to Mobile, Alabama, where she soon gained the love of a new community. Her generosity, warmth, and famous apple pies made her a cherished neighbor and friend everywhere she went.
She had a passion for life, and she loved to travel. Whether it was visiting all 50 states, cruising the rivers of Europe, meeting family in Sweden, exploring the Highlands of Scotland, visiting her children and grandchildren, or just spending weekends in the RV with her husband Eric and friends, she embraced each adventure. Joan was an avid sports fan. She could always be seen on the sidelines cheering on her kids and grandsons when they played, and never missing a chance to watch the Steelers or the Cubs.
Above all else, Joan's family was her greatest love. She leaves behind Eric Paulson, her high school sweetheart and husband of 64 years, her son Craig (and Natalie) Paulson (Seneca, SC), her daughter Jesica Paulson (Chicago, IL), her grandchildren Codey (and Lindsey) Paulson (Southside, AL), Troy Paulson (Mobile, AL), Conner Paulson (Southside, AL), and great-grandson Corbyn Paulson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jessie Rausch, her brother, John (and Bertha) Rausch, and her sister, Jacqueline (and Don) Paulson, who welcomed her to the peace of heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending donations to the Hamot Nursing Alumni Scholarship in Care of Rebecca Wilson (4069 Argyle Ave. Erie, PA 16505).
A celebration of her life will be held at Burton Funeral Home in Girard on June 10th. Visitation 11:00-12:00, Services and interment at Fairview Cemetery to follow.
Her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched will sincerely miss Joan's generosity, dedication, and loving spirit.
