Joan Hudson

Joan Prizinsky Hudson, age 79, of Fairview, died on Tuesday April 15, 2014 at UPMC Hamot. She was born on September 5, 1934 in Erie, the daughter of the late Norma Coleman and Andrew Prizinsky.

Joan graduated from Strong Vincent, class of 1952 and the Hamot Nursing School, class of 1956. She was an ob/gyn nurse at Hamot Hospital where she met her husband, Dr. Howard Hudson. Shortly after their wedding she became a full time mother to their three children.

She was a member of Luther Memorial Church, Kahkwa Club, the former Aviation Club, Erie Club, Erie Maennerchor Club and the University Club. She was also very active in her nursing school reunions. She was a very generous and spiritual person. She was a world traveler, avid reader, and bridge player. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking and knitting.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brother John Schultz.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Howard Hudson; her children, Elizabeth (Keith) Bille’ of Sugarland, TX, Leslie (Carl) Finkbeiner of Frederick, MD, and David (Laurie) Hudson of Fairview; and seven grandchildren: Daniel and Suzanne Carbone; Emily, Katie and Amanda Finkbeiner; and Christopher and Taylor Hudson. She is further survived by her brother David (Judy) Prizinsky; nephew Matthew Prizinsky; and niece Heidi Pieri.

Friends are invited to call on the family on Friday April 18th at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th St. (at Powell Ave.) from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Services are on Saturday at 11am at Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th Street, Erie, PA 16501. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
