On Monday, July 9th, 2018, Jessie M. “Aunt Jessie” Smith, peacefully passed away after a long illness. She was 94 years young and resided in Erie, PA. “Aunt Jessie,” as she was known to many, was born on October 2, 1923, in Humboldt, TN, the daughter of Moses and Esther Thompson.
She attended Academy High School and worked for many years in central supply at Hamot Hospital.
After the death of her brother Lee and his wife Zula, Jessie took in her 2 nieces and 2 nephews, raising them to be successful and loving adults.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Smith; brothers, Lee and Frank Thompson and her sister, Rushelle Holden.
Jessie is survived by her children, Sandra Thompson of Philadelphia, Douglas Thompson of Erie, Lynda Rogers of Fort Wayne, and Jeffery Thompson of Pittsburgh; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She is further survived by her brother Rev. Fred Thompson of Erie and a host of family and friends
Friends may call at St. James AME Church, 236 East 11th Street,where Jessie was a longtime member, on Friday, July 13th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and attend her service there on Saturday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
