Jerry Brown

Jerry Johnson Brown age 76 of Fairview died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 9, 2013.

He was born on July 18, 1936 in Narrows, VA, a son the late Cyrus Wells and Lyda Hale Brown.

After graduating from Narrows High School he studied at Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, Jerry was employed by Duquesne Light Company as a Test Engineer at the Shippingport Atomic Power Station where he met his wife, Rita.

Jerry worked for the Navy Nuclear Fuel Division of Babcock & Wilcox Company in Lynchburg, VA for 14 years prior to joining Autoclave Engineers in Erie, PA in 1981. Jerry was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing tennis. He was an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church, an active member of Wayside Presbyterian Church and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Jerry will be best remembered by his quick wit and sense of humor.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rita Drake Brown, son Leslie Brown (wife Kate) of Evergreen, CO , and daughters Lori Brown of Albion, MI and Julia Brown (husband Adrian Burns) of San Francisco, CA. and two grandchildren, Jake and Lyla Burns. Jerry is also survived by two brothers, Bill (June) Brown and Joe Brown; six sisters, Carol Brown Faulkner, Sarah (Bill) Swarts, Nancy (Clarence) Clevenger, Alice Everhart, Hilda Beamer and Rebecca (Dick) Moore; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by brothers, Hamilton and Herbert Brown and sister Mary Gray Campbell.

Friends may call on Wednesday, March 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.), Erie, PA 16506, and are invited to a memorial service at 3 PM on Thursday, March 14 at Wayside Presbyterian Church, 1208 Asbury Rd., Erie, PA 16505 with Rev. Quincy Worthington officiating.
