Jerome “Jerry” Cederlof, age 90, of Fairview died early Thursday morning, February 16, 2023 at his home, after a struggle with stage four lung cancer.
He was born in Warren, PA on November 9, 1932, the son of the late Eraneus W. and Jessie Ritchie Cederlof.
He graduated from Sheffield High School in 1951 and from California State College, California, PA (currently PennWest California in connection with Edinboro and Clarion) in 1961. He was a member of the 1951 Vulcan football team that played in the Pythian Bowl in North Carolina (the first bowl game appearance ever for California State). He interrupted his education to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1957.
He taught Industrial Arts in Millcreek Township for 31 years, first at Westminster Junior High and then at J.S. Wilson Middle School. He was assistant football coach part of that time. He was a member of the Zem Zem Temple Shrine, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Erie and North Star Lodge 241. He was a member of the Legion of Honor, Erie County Shrine and West County Shrine.
Jerry also held memberships in the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and the Technology Education Association. He and his wife, Nancy (“Nan”), competed in many Senior Games at the state and national level. He loved to fish and hunt, but gave that up a few years ago. He remained with his golf through last fall. He was an avid gardener and won many, many ribbons at the Albion Fair, even in 2022, when he was not well, but assisted by his good friends, John and Paula Paden.
He volunteered at Chosen for a long time, making many friends there.
He was most recently a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church.
Jerry had been a long time member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church, where he met his wife to be and subsequently married the future Choir Director June 28, 1963. While there, he spent many years coaching the boys’ basketball team in the City of Erie Recreation Dept. Church League, served as a Trustee, and sang in The Master’s Choir.
His wife, Nancy (Manchester) Cederlof survives him, along with his son, Greg Cederlof (Gil) of Coopersburg, PA, his daughter, Gayle Driscoll (David) of Edwardsville, Illinois, two precious grandsons, Patrick and Evan Driscoll of Edwardsville, Illinois, and his wife’s forever friend who became a good friend and caregiver for Jerry, and is considered a part of this family, Janet Pedersen.
He is also survived by his two older sisters: Joyce Bell, of Farmington, CT, and Jean Carlson of Meadville, PA. He is further survived by Nan’s only living sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Floyd Hermansen of Fairview, PA. There are also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who share our grief.
