Jeffrey A. "Swede" Youngberg, 62, of Erie, died on Friday, May 27, 2016, at Christus St. Vincent Hospital, Santa Fe, NM. He was born on July 12, 1953, in Erie, son of the late John Robert and Violet M. Kristenson Youngberg. A 1971 graduate of Academy High School, he attended the University of Akron, Akron, OH and earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ. "Swede" worked for Schwebel's Baking Company for 22 years, retiring in 2012. He belonged to the former Bethany Lutheran Church and was a member of the Cascade Club and the Sunflower Club. He was a big Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed collecting HO scale trains, and loved boating, owning a Sea Ray named "Punjab." When Jeff retired from Schwebel's he bought a trailer and headed to New Mexico to follow his dream of staying at the state parks. He loved it and even had the opportunity to act as a state park "host" for a camping season. His family is so appreciative of the new friends Jeff found along the way who later became his extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Craig Brown.
Survivors include a sister, Cheryl Brown of Erie; a brother, Gary R. Youngberg and girlfriend Doreen Thompson of Erie; three nephews, Michael Brown and wife Teresa of Columbia Heights, MN, Patrick Brown and wife Maria of Erie and Jon Brown of Clarion, PA; two grandnieces, Rebecca Lynn Brown and Allison Nicole Brown of Erie; a grandnephew, Ian Matthew Brown of New Castle, PA; and many cousins and friends.
Jeff's family would like to thank the staffs of both Christus St. Vincent Hospital and Presbyterian Medical Services Hospice Center for their kindness and the excellent care given to Jeff. They are truly compassionate caregivers.
The family will receive friends at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street, Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 1 p.m. until the time of a Memorial Service there at 2 p.m. The Rev. William Coleman of Luther Memorial Church will officiate. Private interment will be at Erie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Park Foundation, 1110 Vermont Avenue, NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20005; or to Presbyterian Medical Services Hospice Center, 1400 Chama Avenue, Santa Fe, NM 87505.
