Jeffrey Bomba

October 17, 1981 — January 13, 2018

Jeffrey Ryan Bomba, age 36, of Erie passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at St. Vincent hospital. He was born on October 17, 1981 in Erie the son of James and Karen (Flanagan) Bomba.

He was a 2000 graduate of Cathedral Prep, where he was an All-Metro standout offensive guard on the 1999 PIAA State runner-up football team. After graduation, he attended both Westminster College and Gannon University, pursuing studies in business management. During high school and college he worked various part-time jobs. His favorite was working at Baumann Brothers Carpetowne, who sponsored him in the 62nd annual Save-An-Eye Football game, his last competitive contest as a player. He was employed at Erie Insurance for the past 15 years, most recently as a personal lines underwriter.

Jeff enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed going to “Randy’s Hunting Lodge” in Scandia with his father and friends, where this past year he harvested his “Buck of a Lifetime.” He was passionate about coaching football at Cathedral Prep for 13 years and 3 years at Iroquois  He was an assistant offensive line coach for both Varsity and J.V. Throughout his life he exhibited outstanding work habits, attitude, and effort in everything he did.

Jeff was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John J. and Lois (Buzza) Flanagan and his paternal grandparents, John P. and Dorothy (Johnson) Bomba.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving sister, Megan C. Gilmore and her husband Luke of Erie and their children, Benjamin and Delainey, who Jeff adored. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends are invited to call at the Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Thursday from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Friday at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick’s church. Private burial in St. Gregory Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

Flowers are respectfully declined. Memorials in Jeff’s honor may be made to the Cathedral Prep Endowment Fund, 225 W.9th St., Erie, PA 16501. “Mary, Queen of Prep-----Pray for him”
