Jeffrey David Benson passed away peacefully on Friday, September 16, 2022 surrounded by family at UPMC Presbyterian hospital, after a sudden illness. He was the son of Jean Erickson Benson and John R. Benson, Sr. Jeffrey graduated from Tech Memorial High School in 1975. He loved camping, hunting and spending time with his wife and daughter.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jennifer Benson.
Jeffrey is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Renee M. (Corvino) Benson, their daughter Sarah Clair Benson and her husband Andreas A. Apostolopoulos; four brothers: John R. Benson, Jr (Debbie), James S. Benson, Rev. Joel A. Benson (Mindy) and Jeremy P. Benson (Vanessa); a brother- in- law, Randy Corvino (Cathy Santone Corvino), and many nieces and nephews.
Affectionately known as “Benny,” he started his career as an EMT with Erie Ambulance in the early 1980s, and was also a volunteer firefighter with West Lake Fire Department. He was an original employee of EmergyCare, where he went on to be a nationally registered paramedic, operations supervisor and was one of the founders of the Explorer Post program. He served as a flight paramedic for LifeStar. He later worked for West County Paramedic Association as a paramedic, and Millcreek Paramedic Service where he was the operations manager. He also served as a SWAT Medic for the Millcreek Police Department SWAT Team. Benny loved to teach, and taught numerous EMT, Paramedic and medical classes throughout the county. He was also a member of PROBUS.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors, specialists, nurses and aides in the Cardiac ICU at UPMC Presbyterian at the staff at STAT MedEvac for their incredible care and compassion.
Friends may call at Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm and are invited to attend Funeral Services Thursday at 11:00 am in Luther Memorial Church, 225 West 10th St., Erie. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
