Jeffrey David Ankiel, age 69, of Millcreek, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, December 11, 2022. He was born in Erie on December 14, 1952, son of late Robert L. and Eleanore P. (Pamin) Ankiel.
Jeff attended Strong Vincent High School and graduated in 1971. After high school, he began a career with the Marx Toy Company and then went to work at General Electric Erie Plant, retiring after 36 years of service.
He was an avid bicyclist and kept records of how many miles he traveled every year. During most of the time he worked at the GE Plant, he rode his bike to and from work from spring until fall. He loved working around the house, gardening and keeping his lawn immaculate. He enjoyed all dogs especially his German Shorthair Pointers that he had over the years. Jeff was a volunteer for the Second Harvest Food Bank for many years using all his vacation time from work to help them.
He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth (Beth) Ankiel Rapp; a cousin, Thomas Pamin and his wife, Sandy, their daughter, Lisa, and husband, Jeremy Dvorak and their children, Colton and Eveabelle.
A special thanks to Dr. David Hutzel, who was Jeff’s personal physician, Dr. Gary Brotherson, whose dedication helped Jeff in many ways and Dr. Kirk Steehler, who kept Jeff free of infection after his tracheostomy. Also, a thank you to the wonderful neighbors that helped Jeff with tasks he was no longer able to do on his own.
