Jean B. Wettekin, age 94, of Erie and also of Bradenton, FL, died on Monday July 13, 2015 at Westlake Woods. She was born in Erie, November 14, 1920, the daughter of the late Otto J. and Esther Baird Sweinhart.
She graduated from Strong Vincent High School and had been a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church in Erie where she served as a counselor with the Senior Youth Group. She was also a member of the Erie Business and Professional Women’s Club, and the Erie County Tourist and Convention Bureau. She grew up on the beach and always had a passion for it.
She and her husband, Ronald W. Wettekin, who died in July, 2001, owned and operated the Lake Breeze Motel in Erie, family owned and operated since 1936.
Survivors include two sons: Ronald Thomas Wettekin and Charles J. (Jane Mozzocco) Wettekin, both of Erie; a brother, John H. (Dot) Sweinhart of Florida; four grandchildren: Rich (Paula) Wettekin of Erie, Troy Wettekin of Erie, Kelly (Todd) Gebler of Alaska, and Doug Wettekin of Nevada; three great grandchildren: Katlyn, Devon, and Rowen; and three nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Thursday July 16 from 12 Noon until the time of the service at 2pm with Rev. Robert Lewis of Lakewood United Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Erie Cemetery.
