Jean Fries

November 8, 1929 — March 3, 2018

Jean E. “Mama Jean” Marinelli Fries, 88, of Erie and formerly Little Italy, passed away, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on November 8, 1929 in Erie a daughter of Joseph August Marinelli and Norma Brehm Marinelli.  She married William E. Fries, Sr. on April 12, 1952 he preceded her in death on April 3, 2001.

 

She was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and was employed with Bell Telephone Company as a Directory Assistant.

 

Jean was of the Christian faith and had a firm belief in her lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

 

She enjoyed arts and crafts, crocheting, cooking, crossword puzzles, sudoku, watching wild birds, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

 

Jean is survived by a son, William Fries, Jr. and his wife Marjorie of Erie; five daughters, Sharon Labrozzi and her companion David Shearer of Union City, Christine “Tina” Greiman of Manchester, PA, Kim Sheehan of Erie, Gail Fries of Erie, and Jean Van Allsburg and her husband Howard of North East, PA; a special cousin, James Brehm who Jean provided care for; a brother, David Marinelli and his wife Vergi of San Diego, CA; a sister, Lois Tome of Millcreek; grandchildren, Lisianna Shearer, David Stablein, Tammy Stablein, Rachel Becerra, William Fries, Bruce Simmers, Jayme Simmers, Jason Fries, Maria Ortez, Felecia Ortez, Russell Graziano, Amanda Tuttle, Corina Sutton, Melissa Diamond, Alice Van Tassel, Jeremiah Van Tassel, Joshua Van Tassel, Emily Van Allsburg, Joe Stile and Bill SanFelice; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Shearer, Jeffrey Shearer, Michael Shearer, Ricky Mangoni, Courtney Stablein, Brian Keene, Patrick Keene, Jay Keene, Angel Keene, Anthony Simmers, Bruce Simmers, Julian Simmers, Eliza Simmers, Steven Lauth, Seth Nickels, Ralph Nickels, Lexus Conner, Timothy Conner, Elena Fries, Evan Fries, Emilia Fries, Colleena Pacuraw, Brayden LaRiccia, Seth Tuttle, Dajauna Moore, Deacon Eberlin, Dylan Eberlin, Amayah Zigler, Collin SanFelice, Tayla Van Tassel, Jonah Van Tassel, Anabelle Martin, Roselyn Becerra, and Allison Becerra; great-great-grandchildren, Landon and Gabriella and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

In addition to her husband, William; she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Marinelli; two great grandchildren, Michael Featherolf and Aubrey Fries; two son in laws, Michael Grieman and Michael Sheehan.

 

Family and friends are welcome to call on Friday, March 9th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm at  Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street, Erie.  The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 10th at 11:00am at the funeral home with Pastor David Frank, officiating.

 

Burial will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery, Erie.

 

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to W. James Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street, Erie, Pennsylvania 16502.
