Jean Sturtevant Dunn

Jean Sturtevant Dunn, age 102, of Springhill Senior Living Community, and formerly of Briarcliff Manor, New York, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 13th, 2024.

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania December 21, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Percy G. and Irene Hauer Sturtevant.

She graduated from Mercyhurst Seminary in 1939, and Phi Beta Kappa at Duke University in 1943.

Mrs. Dunn was an accountant and worked for the Eastman Kodak Company from 1943-1949, Readers Digest from 1951 – 1955, and the Foundation for Religion and Mental Health, Briarcliff Manor, NY from 1978 – 1993.

She was a member of Luther memorial Church in Erie, and Briarcliff Congregational Church in Briarcliff Manor, NY where she served on the board of trustees and as treasurer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William R. Dunn; a brother-in-law and his wife, Theodore Dunn (Amy); and her sister-in-law Martha Bert Sturtevant.

Survivors include a daughter Martha Dunn of McKean, Pennsylvania; a son Tom Dunn of Frisco, Texas (Leigh); a brother Roger G. Sturtevant of Erie, Pennsylvania (Nancy Baldwin); three nephews: Roger Sturtevant, Jr. (Kathy) of Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, Robert Sturtevant (Peggy) of Plymouth, Indiana, David Sturtevant (Susan) of Bellevue, Washington; a niece Susan Sturtevant Dailey of Houston, Texas.

Classical music was her passion in life and she was an ardent supporter of the Erie Philharmonic and WQLN. She also enjoyed bicycle riding and, in her later years, kite flying on the Peninsula.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to Burton Quinn-Scott Funeral Home, West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St., Erie. Inurnment will take place in Mountain View Cemetery, Castleton-on-Hudson, NY.
