Jean Beckman

January 5, 1920 — February 6, 2013

Jean Beckman, 93, life-long resident of Erie, PA, died on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center.

She was born in Erie on January 5, 1920, the daughter of the late William Beckman and Florence Schutter Beckman.

She graduated from Strong Vincent High School, Class of 1938, and Erie Business College. She spent her entire career at Hammermill Paper Company where she was production manager, and was proud to retire after 45 years of continuous service. She was a devoted lifelong member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. She cared for her father until his death in 1973.

Jean is survived by her sister Doris Fessler and brother-in-law Dr. James Fessler of Fairview, her sister Mrs. Florence Beckman Toboz of Meadville, six nieces and nephews, and eight grand-nieces and nephews, all of whom loved and enjoyed her immensely.

Ms. Beckman was devoted to her family, proud of her German heritage and her family's place in Erie's history. She had a ready laugh, loved to travel and was cautiously adventurous, always happiest when sharing an activity or a chat with family and friends. Independent and active, she had a quick wit and lively spirit.
