Jean "Oma" Elizabeth Baumbach Hovis, 78, was born May 13,1945. She went to her eternal rest January 14, 2024 after a lengthy illness.
Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved hosting family parties and spending time with all her grandchildren. Jean was an avid gardener and terrific cook. She loved animals almost as much as her grandchildren and cared for many pets throughout her life but was especially fond of her many cats.
Jean was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, class of 1963.
She worked for several years as a preschool assistant and enjoyed many different cleaning jobs to support her family. When she wasn't gardening, caring for her kids, or spoiling her cats, Jean spent her time volunteering at the ANNA Shelter, in Erie.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Baumbach and Alberta Baumbach; her late husband Richard Hovis, and her nephew Christopher Carlin.
Jean is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Huggins Presley; three sons Jeffery Hovis (Miranda), Brendan Hovis (Brian), and Kevin Hovis; by her granddaughters Alessandra Huggins, Alesia Hovis, Sarah Presley; and four great-grandchildren Adrianna Donahue, Alexis Barron, Jonathan Barron, and Logan Hovis. She is further survived by her beloved sister Judy Hurst; brother-in-law Herman Hurst; nephews Michael Carlin (Mindy) and Jamie Carlin (Amy) and several great nieces and nephews.
Jean's family extends heartfelt thanks to Bre, and the nurses and staff of the LECOM Village Square and Hospice Center for the compassionate care they provided to her during her illness.
Burial will be private. Condolences may be sent to www.BurtonQuinnScott.com.
