Janice Marie Coleman, age 62, of Erie, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016 in Raleigh, NC. She was born in New Orleans on April 3, 1954, a daughter of Edward Taylor and Christine Pierce.
Janice graduated from Academy High School and held several occupations, most recently working in childcare. She was a member of the Christian Ministries of the Apostolic Faith Church in Erie. While spending time with her father in Mississippi she also became a member of the Jordan Missionary Church. She was always helping others, including helping to raise her grandchildren. She also enjoyed helping her daughter in her hair salon. She was an amazing cook and loved being in the kitchen. Everyone in the family had their favorite, from her fried chicken or sweet potato pie to her gumbo or Thanksgiving dressing. She gave her life to the Lord and loved being with her family, especially her husband Ben. She will forever be remembered by her loved ones as the backbone of their family.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Manson and Sadie Mae Beason as well as Willie and Morgan Taylor and her brother in law Everett Duck.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 30 years Ben (Pete) Coleman of Erie; two sons: Bobby Hamilton and Cory Coleman (Susan Schreiner Coleman), both of Erie; two daughters: Tammy Hamilton (Robert Warren)of Raleigh, NC and Tabitha Hamilton (Ulysses Rivers) of Charlotte, NC; three step-children: Sean Coleman, of Philadelphia and Michelle Coleman Martin (Ronald), of Delaware, and Stephanie Coleman, of Erie; and her siblings: Elois Duck, Dicie Taylor, and Ronald Taylor. She is further survived by twenty grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her godson Andre Crockett Jr.
Friends may call on the family on Friday, April 22nd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Rd., Erie, PA 16510 and are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, April 23rd at 11am at the Second Baptist Church, 757 East 26th Street, Erie, PA 16504 with Pastor Allen B. Green eulogizing. Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
