Janet Pohl

Janet M. Pohl, 82, passed quietly in her sleep on Friday, 21 September, 2018, in Erie, PA.  Janet was born in Sligo, PA, to Victor Harvey and Lottie Belle (Bashline) McCall in June 1936.  She spent her summers working in the family gas station before graduating from Sligo High School in 1953.  She married Robert H. Pohl in 1954 in the Curlsville Methodist Church, Curllsville, PA, and raised four children over four decades.  Janet earned a nursing degree in 1976 and spent twenty years helping others until her retirement in the late 1990s and then she traveled the world with her husband and family visiting six continents and more than twenty countries.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her brother, John Harvey McCall; and her son-in-law, Stephen A. Bumbarger.  She is survived by her children, David R., (Mary Lou), of Memphis, TN; Nancy L. Bumbarger of Greenville, SC; E. Douglas, (Jenae), of Girard, PA; and Susan L.  of Williamsburg, VA.  She is also survived by two grandchildren, Todd Bumbarger  of Baden, PA and Sarah Klaassen, (Paul) of Greenville, SC; two step-granddaughters, Marissa and Megan Solan of Erie, PA; two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Abigail Klaassen; two sisters, Evelyn Wishart of Sligo, PA. and Carol Gale of Hollidaysburg, PA; and her beloved cat Rita.  Rita will never forget her.

Services will be held on Saturday, 29 September, 2018, at 2pm in the Curllsville Methodist Church, 3019 Curllsville Road, Curllsville, PA.  A dinner in the community room will follow the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or the Alzheimer’s Association of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bickford Senior Living who took such good care of Janet in her final days.
