Janet Eunice Liebler Plavcan, age 82, of Erie, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2021 surrounded by family after a short but brave battle with cancer.
She was born May 4, 1939 the daughter of William J. and Eunice Dwyer Liebler.
Janet graduated from Mercyhurst High School and then completed her schooling and graduated from Mercyhurst College. She attended Edinboro College where she received her Masters in Education. She taught for several years in both the Erie Catholic Diocesan school system as well as the Erie School District. She loved teaching grade school especially 4th grade. In addition to being a teacher, Janet’s main occupation was that of a wonderful wife, and mother.
Janet was full of life and in true Irish style lived her life with passion. She loved to travel and always said to see it all and do it all. When asked where her favorite travel destination was, her response was “Ireland”. She was affectionately known for her love for chocolate especially Romolos! She enjoyed being with friends and family.
Janet is survived by her husband John G. Plavcan with whom she would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Her son Father Jon J. Plavcan of Indiana, her daughter Joan Buchanan and son in law Rodney Buchanan of Erie, daughter Jill Plavcan of Canton, Michigan, and grandchildren Katie Cooper of Wake Forest, NC, Patrick Cooper and his fiancé Lauren Gallaway of San Antonio, Texas. She further survived by her sister Jean L. Vickey her husband Geoff, sisters in law Margaret Plavcan, and Dora Ann Gondo, brother-in-law George Plavcan, several nieces, nephews, and several cousins. She is further survived by many close friends who were a great support for her during her illness.
The family would like to thank Saint Vincent Emergency Room staff for their kind and compassionate care during her several visits. The staff on 3N at Saint Vincent especially Robert, who she said treated her like his own grandmother. The staff and residents at Springhill, and Forestview who helped care for Janet during her illness and were so very supportive of the family during this time. Finally thank you to Interim Home Care and Hospice for their care and support.
Friends are invited to call on the family Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Saint Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 W. 6th Street, Erie from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. All CDC guidelines, and masks will be required for the service.
