Jane Snarski

November 11, 1928 — June 6, 2016

Jane Lea Russell Snarski passed away on June 6, 2016 after a brief illness.  She was born on November 11, 1928 and graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1946. She was married to Joseph Snarski on July 4, 1948.

Jane and Joe started the Snarski Carpet Installation business in the early 1960's and operated it until their retirement in the 1990's.  They sub-contracted the installation through Sears. Jane then worked for Sears collecting credit applications in the store and at local county fairs. She always loved talking with those who stopped by her booth.

Jane's greatest passion was taking care of "daddy" as she used to say, with whom she had been married for 67 years until his death in May, 2016.  She was always by his side. They rodeo'd together, roller skated following Joe while he competed in both calf roping and roller skating, rode bikes at the peninsula that always included a stop at Sara's for lunch, took long drives in the country and then purchased a travel trailer to visit their daughter in Florida.  They liked it so much that they sold everything in their Erie home and moved to Florida to retire. They lived in Florida for eight years, finally returning to Erie to be closer to family when their daughter moved north as well.

Jane had been residing at the Abington Crest nursing home for the past year, where she made a great impression on the nurses and other caregivers. She maintained a sharp wit and fun-loving spirit even though she was in declining health.

Jane was one of five children born to the former Edward and Phyllis (Hennon) Russell.  Her brothers and sisters have all predeceased her. They were Edward Russell, Mary Lou Brumagin, William Russell and Zita Williams. Those surviving are daughters Christine Miller (Ron) and Gail Rodencal (Tom).  Sons are Jeffrey (Robin) and Kevin (Kristin).  Jane had eleven grandchildren: Stephanie (Benson) Devich, Alyson (Benson) Kroft, Jason Rodencal, Ryan, Sean, Katie, Cara (Snarski) Green, Alexa, Jillian, Sara and Bailey.  She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Jack and Lilie Kroft and Harrison Devich.

There will be no calling hours or funeral.  A private memorial will be held at a later date to honor both Jane and Joe.  Memorials in Jane's name may be made to Lakeland Area Hospice, 2221A Peninsula Drive, Erie, PA 16506.
