Jane D. Horton Crumbly passed away peacefully and comfortably on Tuesday December 27, 2022.
She was born on October 18, 1935, in Houston, Mississippi to the late Ada and Percy Horton Sr. As a child, she was a loving and respectful daughter; she assisted her mother in taking care of her younger siblings and served a great role model to them.
She graduated from Strong Vincent High School and continued her studies at the prestigious HBCU, Jackson State University in Jackson, MS. There, she gained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She met her first husband and gave birth to two beautiful children, Belinda Diann and Sonny (Clarance). Years later, she relocated back to Erie, PA and resided for over 50 years. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Hamot Medical Center. She further studied Nursing at Villa Maria College and gained her Master of Science; a very honorable achievement for a woman of color at the time. After 34 years, she retired from General Electric where she worked in the Medical Department.
She met the love of her life, Jimmie Crumbly, and married in 1986. They built a beautiful life together centered around God, prayer, family, and love. They loved spending time with family and attending church at the First Church of God. She will be dearly missed by all.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Crumbly; and her daughter, Belinda Diann Lomax.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Yasseen Bey (Sidra); two stepdaughters, Beverly and Judy Crumbly, Oakwood, GA; seven grandchildren, Khalil Bey and Rikki Willis (Terrell), Baltimore, MD, Dominic Hunter (Jazmine), Fayetteville, NC, Xavier Watson, Bianca Valdez (Omari), and Malcom Watson, Waldorf, MD, Omar Bey; nine great-grandkids, Amirah, Chase, Kaelan, and Shemar Bey, Kenyon, Mya, and Keiare Willis, and Aayden and Torrie Hunter; six siblings James, Bobby, Cecil (Marcie), Percy Jr, Suzann (Percy), and JoAnn; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A celebration of Jane’s life will be conducted on Saturday January 14, 2023 at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, Erie at 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the care of Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, Erie.
