Jane Ann Wicker Guy, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, born in Erie, PA on April 27, 1937, died in Atlanta, GA on October 4, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elinor Wicker and her husbands James M. Guy and Howard Yocum.
A graduate of Strong Vincent High School and Allegheny College, Jane was cheerful, gentle, kind, compassionate, and a devout Christian whose faith was very important to her. When she lived in Northeast, PA, she tutored Vietnamese immigrants in English. In Erie, where she was a member of the Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church, Jane was an ordained Elder and Deacon, and coordinated their auxiliary for Elmwood Gardens/Presbyterian Lodge (assisted living home). She was also a member of “Aglow,” and served on their prison ministry.
Jane was a talented musician, playing piano and singing. She sang in the Oswego, NY First Presbyterian Church choir, sang with the Erie Siebenbuerger Singers, and was in the Chancel Choir of Erie Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church. At one time, when she and husband “Bud” Guy were spending winters in Melbourne, FL, they performed as “The Guys” with Bud on banjo and guitar and Jane singing and on keyboard.
Jane was also involved in many social activities. A member of the Erie Sewing Guild, she was an accomplished seamstress, making couture clothing for her family for many years. She also was in the Erie Garden Club, and enjoyed tending her roses in her Erie garden.
Jane is survived by her son Stephen (Marlene) Guy, daughter Linda O’Marra, grandchildren Julie and Kaitlyn O’Marra, Christopher and Christina Guy, sister Mary Spaan, and several nieces and nephews.
Many friends and relatives will miss Jane and mourn her passing, yet have faith in the resurrection to come.
The family will receive friends at the Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2816 Elmwood Avenue, Erie, PA 16508 on Wednesday, October 12, at 4 PM until the time of the service at 5 PM with the Reverend Harry Johns officiating.
