James Vincent

November 16, 1925 — February 17, 2014

James M. Vincent, age 88, of Erie, PA passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Fairview Manor following a brief illness.

James was born in Erie on November 16, 1925. He was the son of the late Chester Joseph and Constance Mary McNerney Vincent.

He graduated from Strong Vincent High School, Class of 1943. Following his graduation from high school, James accepted a football scholarship to Miami University of Ohio (Oxford, OH), but his education was interrupted due to his service during World War II when he joined the United States Merchant Marines. He served on the Kentuckian, Spottsylvania, and the Whitehorse.

James was married to his wife, the former Mary Jane Anderson for 67 years.

James began his career with Prudential Insurance in 1950 in a sales position and advanced into various managerial roles until he retired in 1987.

James had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where he served as a Deacon. He was also very active in many clubs in the community: Life Member of the Erie Maennerchor Club, Erie Yacht Club, Siebenbuerger Club, Zukor Club, Danish Club and Sertoma Club. He was a very avid sportsman including hunting, boating, and golfing. He also enjoyed bowling at the Maennerchor Club.

James and Mary Jane loved to travel and especially enjoyed their trips to Florida. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchild all very much.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother John Paul (Jack) Vincent and his son James Douglas Vincent.

In addition to his wife, Mary Jane, of Erie; he is survived by his daughter, Sharon Lee Muse; a son, John S. Vincent, of Carmel, IN and his former daughter-in-law, Catherine Vincent. His granddaughters: Jennifer Lee Muse, and her fiancé Brian Courtney; Julie Lee Muse; and Lauren Vincent, of Ponte Vedra, FL and one great-grandaughter, Abigail Jane Muse. James is also survived my many dear nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue,) on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Ray Speakman officiating.

Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery with full Military Honors.
