James Swoger

James Harrington Swoger, age 39, of Erie, surrounded by his family, lost his hard-fought and courageous battle with cancer on August 7, 2023.

Born on May  9, 1984, James was the loving son of MaryBeth Ford and James William Swoger.

James was a 2002 graduate of Mercyhurst Preparatory School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh.  James was a proud 9 year member of the Steamfitters Local 449 from 1st year apprentice throughout his journeyman career.

James was a champion hugger. You could count yourself lucky to receive one of his loving hugs. He loved to play video games and enjoyed tinkering with his hands. James was a life scout and applied his scouting skills in all areas of his life. He was very talented and completed many 3-D printing and woodworking projects. A voracious reader, James always enjoyed learning throughout his life. He loved to cook and was always creating a wide variety of dishes. James was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 470 Auxiliary. 

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jeanne Marie and Richard G. Ford and his paternal grandparents, Ruthe and James Henry Swoger.

James is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Jennifer “Jennie” Hauser Swoger, his twin-children, Cara Lynn and James Walker Swoger, his parents, MaryBeth Ford and her companion, Michael Staab, James Swoger and his wife Ronda, and a sister, Megan Criscione. James is also survived by his in-laws, Dave and Joyce Hauser and brother in law, Thomas Hauser. He is further survived by step-sisters Jamie Moore (Nicole), Kelly Moore Dunham (Dave), step-brother Kenneth "Buddy" Moore (Carrie) and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 12 p.m. until the time of service there at 2 p.m. with Father John Malthaner officiating.

Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
