James E. Smith, of Fairview, passed away on his 84th birthday on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at his residence.
He was born in Erie on September 10, 1932, a son of the late John and Veronica Carnecki Smith. Jim attended Cathedral Prep.
Jim was a teacher in a class called Buildings, Trades, and Maintenance at East High School. Then had gone on and worked in building maintenance for Skinner Electric, Erie Bolt, and Hardinger Transportation for many years. He enjoyed wood working and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Smith in 2011, a sister, Elizabeth Catharine Smith and a brother, Joseph Smith.
Jim is survived by his son, James Smith and his wife Cheryl of Myrna Ark.; a step daughter, Robin Horvath of Erie; a step son, Victor Bednark; a brother, Stephen “Sonny” Smith and his companion Janice Vacco; three sisters: Mary Jabne Raines of Erie; Veronica Riegel and her husband John of Girard; and Ruth Ann Tubbs and her husband Jerry of Erie; several nieces and nephews; and longtime friends and neighbors, Bob and Cheryl Copus of Fairview.
Services were held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. Girard. Memorials may be made to the family.
