James D. Quinn, age 81, of Fairview, passed away October 26, 2017 at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Jim was born April 21, 1936 in Madison, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Daniel Leo and Irene (Weston) Quinn.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1959 with a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering. Later, he went on to take graduate courses in business administration at Loyola University in New Orleans, St. Louis University and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps for six months as a 2nd Lieutenant and then resumed his career as a Chemical Engineer for Monsanto in St. Louis. He worked for a number of years with Monsanto, in several locations. He then went on to work for Sprague Electric, Mallinckrodt and Calsicat in engineering and manufacturing assignments. He retired from Calsicat/Engelhard in 1998 but stayed on in consulting capacity until 2002. During retirement, he has been an active volunteer with SCORE, Counselors to America’s Small Business, the LOCAL Emergency Planning Committee, and the AARP TaxAide Program. He has been a member of St. Jude the Apostle Church, since 1985.
Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Redeker Quinn, a son, Christopher Quinn and his wife, Lori Goucher from Green Brook, New Jersey and a daughter, Julie Baldwin and her husband Matthew from Erie. He is also survived by grandchildren, Matthew Baldwin, Jr., Rylie Baldwin and Lauren Quinn and a sister Marian Quinn of Wisconsin.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue) on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Sat at 12:00 noon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.. with Reverend John Detisch officiating.
