James Morey

May 10, 1947 — September 6, 2018

James Frank  “Jim” Morey passed from this life into eternity on Thursday, September 6, 2018.  He was born on May 10, 1947 in Erie, the beloved son of Frank and Gertrude (Waidley) Morey.
Jim graduated from Tech Memorial High School in 1965, and then went on to a long career as a Tool and Die Maker, working at Penn Erie Manufacturing, Farnstrom Tool and then retiring from Plastek Industries in 2009.
He met the love of his life, Sharon, on a blind date on July 13, 1969, and asked her to marry him three weeks later.  They were married on May 2, 1970 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Erie and spent 48 wonderful years together.
Jim loved his family above all else and he would do anything to help anyone.  He was a kind, quiet, loving man who worked very hard to support his family.  He was so proud of his children and especially proud of his grandchildren. He had a model train collection, including one set over a hundred years old, which he loved sharing with his grandchildren. He was admired by many for his woodworking ability and vast knowledge to fix absolutely anything.  He was a fan of the Cleveland sports teams, especially the Indians and Browns.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marilyn Merryman in 2007, and a brother-in-law, Tom Reisenweber in 2011.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon (Reisenweber), his daughter, Jennifer Brooks and her husband, Jake and their sons, Jack and Jordan of New Jersey, his son, John and his wife, Tracy and their daughters, Ryleigh and Macie of Pittsburgh, his son, Kevin and his wife, Steph and their twins, Shaelynn and Declan, his son Patrick and his wife, Rachel and their son, Collin and a new Morey baby to arrive in December, and his son, Christopher all of Erie.
He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church and when his children were in grade school there, he was active in the School Board, Parish Council and the PTC, including a year being Co-President of the PTC with his wife.
Friends may call on Sunday, September 9th at Burton West Lake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street from 1pm to 3pm and from 6pm to 8pm.  A funeral service will take place on Monday, September 10th at 11am at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Michael  DeMartinis.  Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwestern Pennsylvania, 1507 Grimm Drive, Erie, PA  16501, or to the charity of one’s choice.
