James Johnson, age 82, of Erie, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital.
He was born in York, New York on July 10, 1934 to John Robert Johnson and Ethel Jackson Johnson.
James served his country in the United States Army from 1952-1955 during the Korean Conflict. He also worked as a very talented carpenter and mechanic in his father’s garage and with Baldwin Brothers for many years.
James had a great love of baseball and played semi-pro for the Puerto Rican All Stars and the Blue Devils as well as locally for Bobangos. He also loved bowling, drawing horses, and always loved to make people laugh. James was always there to help if you needed anything.
In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by five sisters, Mary Chatmon, Minnie Fuqua, Ethel Miller, Jean Johnson and Virginia Ann Allen; and a brother, John Johnson along with a grandchild, W.M. J. Rollins and a great grandchild, Jeremiah Rollins.
In addition to his wife, Stella Ann Johnson, he is survived by his former wife, Joyce along with his children; Tru, Faith, Mark, Robert (Kim), Stephanie (Don), Onalee (Ron) Pacley, David (Jenn), Brian (Sara) and Kelli (Joey) Henderson. He is also survived by two brothers, William and Roy (Betty) Johnson; two sisters Florence Johnson and Faith (Ed) Crumbly along with 23 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Burton Funeral home, 602 West 10th Street on Sunday from 2:00 pm till the time of a memorial service there at 4:00 pm. Private burial in Erie Cemetery.
