James Jackson

James H. “Jim” Jackson, Sr., age 61, of Erie, passed away at his home on August 18, 2018.  He was born on March 31, 1957, a son of the late Rev. Vernon Ward Jackson Sr. and Florence M. (Harvey) Jackson.

A son of a pastor, Jim was born in Hugoton, KS, attended Academy High School in Erie, PA and graduated from John Marshall High School in Milwaukee, WI. He attended Anderson University in Indiana after high school.  Jim loved the church, where he enjoyed singing and spending time with his church friends and served as the Director of Member Care.  He adored his family above all and was known to be playful and goofy.  Jim played an active role in the lives of his grandchildren and attended their sporting events regularly.  He enjoyed spending time on the water with his boys and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon W. “Butch” Jackson, Jr.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Fang Guan (Jasmine Jackson), his children, James Jr., (Erica), Daniel (Lesley), Steven (Erin), John (Karah) Jackson and Peter Yu.  He is further survived by his eleven grandchildren, Austin, Trenton, James III (Trey), Kyrstin, Sierra, Briana, Carter, Kendyl, Grady, Caleb and Carson. Also surviving are his sisters, Darlene Freeman (Donald), and Mary Jackson Sterrett, his sister in law, Nancy Jackson and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 W. 10^th St., Erie on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m.  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 23^rd at 10 a.m. at Flagship Freewill Baptist Church, 2728 Pebble Dr., Erie, PA 16508, with Rev. Daryl Grimes, presiding.
