James G. Howell, age 80, of Erie, died on Friday January 8, 2016 at St. Mary’s East. He was born in Erie on February 26, 1935, a son of the late Frederick and Vada Brown Howell.
James graduated from Cathedral Prep in 1953. He was a foreman at Hammermill Paper Company for over 40 years and owned Clancy’s Bar for over 10 years. He enjoyed fishing, boating and loved his “Riot Times”. Family was very important and his grandchildren were everything to him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Bruce “Bruno” Howell and a brother William Howell.
James is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret; his children: Richard “Ranger” (Susan) Howell of McKean, Jeff Howell of Erie, David (Jill) Howell of Erie, Daniel (Stephanie) Howell of Erie, Michelle (John) Collier of Coconut Creek, FL; ten grandchildren: David, Daniel, Molly, Patrick, Chad, Colton, Meg, Matthew, Hadley, and Sam; and two great grandchildren: Madison and Weston. He is further survived by two brothers: Richard (Barb) Howell of Minnesota and Jack (Linda) Howell of New Jersey; a daughter-in-law Dawn Howell; a special friend who was like a daughter, Leslie Andrews; many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his dog Peanut.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Rd. (across from Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery) from 2-4 and 6-8pm and attend a service there on Thursday Jan. 14th at 11am.
