James Gavin

James Gavin, age 70, of Erie, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Manor Care following an extended illness.

He was born in Laurel, Mississippi on September 6, 1944, a son of the late Brooks and Christine Shelby Gavin.

James graduated from Oakpark High School in Laurel Mississippi and then attended OIC Mechanic School. He worked at Pony Express as a delivery person for over 15 years and worked at Sears Tire Center for six years many years ago.

James enjoyed fishing and bowling and had 5 perfect 300 bowling games in his life. He also enjoyed playing softball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, David Scott, Brooks Gavin, Jr. and Percy and Frank Gavin.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Wargo Krayeski Gavin who he was together with for 41 years and married to for 24 years, a son, James William, Jr., four stepchildren, Deborah Cubero, Darrell Wargo, and Donald and Kenneth Krayeski; and fifteen siblings, Jerome and Larry Windom, Lawrence and Alan Scott, Eugene, John and Daniel Gavin, Sharon Redick, Mary Ann Durrham, Janet Strauder, Lorrie Watkins, Carolyn Scott, Belinda Houston, Anne Allen and Bessie Gavin. 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West Tenth Street, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 until the time of service there at 8 p.m. with Reverend John Hall from Heartland Hospice officiating.
