James Fried

August 23, 1947 — January 5, 2016

James G. Fried, 68, of Erie, departed this world for heaven on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital.  He was born in Erie on August 23, 1947, son of the late Frederick J. Fried, Sr. and Mabel M. Dickey Fried.  A 1966 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, who earned his bachelor's degree from Edinboro University.   Jim worked as an accountant for Hammermill/International Paper Co. for 30 years and also for Vlahos Accounting for 20 years.  Always a hard working man, he currently worked for Busek, Barger, Bleil & Co. He served with the Pennsylvania National Guard for seven years.

Jim volunteered his accounting services and served on various committees for Luther Memorial Church and for the Erie Maennerchor Club where he was a life member.  He belonged to the Sunflower, National, and Slovaks social clubs, was a 49-year member of the Brothers Bowling Association, and was a member of Saints and Sinners Dan Rice Tent and Erie Times Old Newsies.  Jim was a very generous man, offering his talents to many organizations and gladly preparing his friends' annual income tax returns.  He enjoyed golfing and bowling with his brothers and cherished those fun times. Jim had an easy going nature, caring heart, strong faith, and made people laugh with his joyful sense of humor. He always put others first, and was adored and loved by all who knew him. Jim will be remembered as a family man and the life of the party.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Robert Fried.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer L. Fried of Warwick, NY and Bethany S. Fried and partner Rob Cisek of Erie; a sister, Judy Potter and husband Leonard of Haines City, FL; six brothers, Frederick J. Fried, Jr. and wife Evelyn and Charles E. Fried and wife Judy, all of Erie, Donald P. Fried and wife Sandra of Yuma, AZ, Harry A. Fried and wife Felicia of Cranberry Twp., PA, Harold G. Fried and wife Karen of Hanover, PA, and David P. Fried of Meadville, PA; a granddaughter, Zoe Carolus of Erie; a grandson, Kaden Hilinski of Edinboro; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; childhood friends Norm Boetger, Jr. and Steve Miller; numerous friends who he loved like family.

Friends may call Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street.  A service will be held at his beloved Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th Street, Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. William Coleman officiating.  Memorials may be made to Luther Memorial Church, 225 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16501.
