James Michael Bauman, age 71, of Millcreek passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021.
He was born in Erie on April 30, 1950, a son of the late Alan James and Sally Strohm Bauman.
James graduated from Cathedral Prep in 1968, and had the distinction of never missing a day of school in 4 years. He graduated from Georgetown University, with a degree in Government in 1972.
He worked as Operations Director, Car #12, at Mayer Brothers Construction for over 25 years. James was a master at planning and executing, and was key to the company’s success. After Mayer Brothers, James worked at Dave Hallman Chevrolet for over 29 years as Fleet & Commercial Business Manager. Also, he was Finance Manager at Greig Equipment and Shipping Manager at Fralo Industries.
James loved music and played the drums professionally for over 50 years in many local bands, and with Mary Alice Brown. He also loved playing the trumpet on Christmas Eve throughout the neighborhood. He was an avid train enthusiast with a vast knowledge of the railroad industry and its history. He was a proud member of the PRR and NYC Historical Societies and the Lake Shore Railway Historical Society. In North East, he refurbished a NYC GE locomotive which is now on permanent display. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed all sports, particularly golfing with his friends and family. Through the years, he was a member of The Kahkwa Club, Lakeshore, Lawrence Park, and The Erie Club. James enjoyed military history, Nascar races, muscle cars, aviation models, Jazz and Big Band music, and his cat Cinder.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Linda Bauman Callahan; grandparents, Ezra and Goldie Strohm, and Alan and Jean Bauman, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Klos Bauman; daughter, Laura Bauman Hingson (George); two siblings, Lisa Sullivan (Michael) and John Bauman (Carolyn); nieces and nephews, Tom Sullivan, Kate Rohrlich (Joe), Patrick Sullivan (Debra); Julie Obleski, Christina Cook (Matt), Cathy Wetherington (Ray), Kaitlyn Callahan, Douglas Bauman (Anne), William Bauman (Jessica), Andrew Bauman (Julie), Daniel Bauman; great nieces and nephews, Piper, Finn, Colin, Mackensie, Cora, Connor, Kennedy, Brody, Michael, Jack, Liam, and Grace.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, 3801 W. 26th Street on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m.
