Jack Barber

Jack D. Barber age 84, of Erie, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Manchester Commons following a brief illness.

He was born in Kane, PA on September 19, 1929, a son of the late Walter Hartwin and Ida Isabell Goodwin Barber.

Jack was raised in Burning Well, PA, graduated from Mt. Jewett High School and then went on to the General Motors Institute in Detroit graduating in 1948.

Jack served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Jack came to Erie in 1954. His first business was an Atlantic Gas Station at 12th and McConnell. He then opened his auto dealership and garage, Barber Auto, and has been in his present location on West 12th Street near Powell Avenue since 1963.

He was a Mason for over 64 years, belonging to the Kane Lodge #0566 F.&A.M. He was also a member of the Siebenbeurger Club, Antique Automobile Club of America- Presque Isle Region and the Northwest PA Chapter of the Buick Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Barber and a brother, Walter Barber Jr.

He is survived by his close friends and business associates, George and Robin Hanks, Jim Glazier, Robert Spencer, Jim Summerville and Sue Slocum all of Erie, and his longtime friend from grade school, Jim McGill of Westline, PA.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be private in Mt. Jewett Cemetery.
