Irwin Wurst

Irwin R. Wurst, age 87, of Erie passed away Saturday April 9, 2016 at UPMC Hamot.

He was born April 30, 1928, a son of the late Gotlieb R. and Barbara Seelinger Wurst.

Irwin was an avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling and pitching horseshoes. He worked for Meadowbrook Dairy as a home delivery milkman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Betty Wurst (2015), who he married in 1948; as well as 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Irwin is survived by son Thomas Wurst and wife Sandy of South Carolina, Karen Sturgeon and her husband Robert, Sharon Confer and her husband Thomas, Peggy Comstock and her friend Thomas, and Betty Harmle and her husband Patrick, all of Erie. Irwin is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Friends may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home at 3801 West 26th Street on Tuesday from 4:00 till 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with grandson Reverend Matthew Wurst officiating. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery following the service.
