Irwin Bole

Irwin “Butch” Herman Bole, age 91, of Millcreek, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Millcreek Community Hospital.

Born in Erie on July 7, 1929 son of the late Elton and Wilhelmina “Lilly” Hertwing Bole.

He was a graduate of the old Erie Tech High School. He served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Brownson, DD868 and was a member of the Brownson Association.  He had worked for the Bucyrus Erie Corporation in numerous capacities over 33 years and 15 years at PNC Bank from where he retired, but continued to work for 5 ½ years at a dental lab after retirement.  He was a charter member of the Church of the Cross where he served as an elder and a member of the choir; he sang in the “Messiah” for 15 ½ years with the Erie Concert Singers; he was a member of Koinonia of Erie County since 1987. Irwin obtained the ranking of Master Clown after 33 years performing as “Butch” and was a member of the Magic Club of Erie; he was a volunteer with WQLN TV; a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, the American Legion Post #773; was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America serving as Scout Master of Troop #26 and as Neighborhood Commissioner.

Irwin was predeceased by his lovely wife of 47 years, Ruth Berklite Kuntz Bole who passed away November 23, 2011.

He is survived by a son Paul Andrew Bole and his wife Linda of Conneautville, PA; a stepson, Donald Kuntz and his wife Thora of Cranesville; a stepdaughter, Barbara Nye of Wesleyville. He is further survived by many grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, a half brother, Melvin Bole and his wife Pat of Williamsport, PA, and two half sisters, Janice Naglowsky and her husband Michael of Erie and Dottie Wimmer and her husband George of West Palm Beach, Florida.

Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th Street, Erie, on Monday, June 28, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Cross, 5901 Millfair Road Saturday, July 3, 2021, with Pastor Drew Himes presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Cross, 5901 Millfair Road, Fairview, PA 16415.
